📖 Steele Rudd
Arthur Hoey Davis, better known as Steele Rudd, was born at Drayton in 1868. His childhood and experience of rural life helped supply the material for the Selection stories and the enduring characters Dad and Dave. Written after he moved to Brisbane, the stories carried memories of farming and the bush to a wide audience. Their humour grew from hardship, family life and the sometimes alarming distance between a farmer’s plans and what actually happened. The Darling Downs formed the remembered world behind that literary career.
